We are rapidly approaching the end of my busy season, but there are still a few events left on the calendar. Here’s what’s coming in the next couple weeks!

  • November 19 – I’m speaking at the Temple University Bookstore about how my evolution from hobbyist blogger to full time writer, teacher, and author. The program starts at 6 pm. More details can be found here.
  • November 20 – Prep for the holiday season with some homemade Edible Gifts at The Brooklyn Kitchen. We’ll cook up batches of Cranberry Chutney and Cranberry Syrup and will dig into the details of boiling water bath canning. Class is from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Click here to sign up.
  • December 8 – Pear Cranberry Chutney class at Wyebrook Farm in Chester County, PA. Class runs from 1 – 3 pm and you can sign up by clicking here!

In other exciting news, my second cookbook, Preserving by the Pint: Quick Seasonal Canning for Small Spaces, is now available for pre-order (it will be released on March 25, 2014). It’s on Amazon, Powell’s, Barnes and Noble, and Chapters (for the Canadians!). I’m just starting the process of planning my tour to support this book. If you want me to come to your city or town this time around, I’m absolutely game but I’ll need your help. Here’s what you can do:

  • If you have a connection with book store or kitchenwares shop that hosts author events, make an introduction. Same goes for cooking schools that host guest instructors.
  • I love spending a morning or afternoon at a local farmers market. If you think I’d be a good fit for yours, hook me up with the coordinator.
  • Let me know if you want to host a private canning class for your local canning circle (there is a fee for this).
  • I’m all about the book potluck. If your local canning or food swap community wants to invite me to bring a stack of books to your upcoming gathering, just say the word.

I can’t wait to meet even more of you all this spring and summer. Thanks in advance for all your help.

Sharing is caring!

  • Wracking my brain for ideas on how to get you here. Must go talk to Farmers’ Market people (especially Wednesday market people, who often have guest chefs). What about a store with a community of makers (knitters in this case), who tend to be foodie/canner/maker types – would that work? It’s a yarn shop, but you would fit the vibe immensely.

  • Okay, I’m going to try to get you to Cleveland, Ohio! I’m a retired librarian who is still in touch with her former colleagues and I’m thinking it would be a great “meet the author” event at the libraries! I also want to contact a local food education group as I think they would also enjoy hosting an event with you. Any particulars I should tell them about regarding booking you in?

      1. Hello Marisa,
I am very interested in what the details are for having you do a demo in Colorado if you would come that far…..or the possibility of a webinar demo training?
What is involved in booking you to come or for the possibility of a webinar training?
        What supplies do you need?
Thank you so very much for your books and Facebook on preserving
        Anne

  • I am on the board of the nonprofit affiliated with the market here in Charlottesville- tell me more about getting you to come here. I also have connections with the local cooking school as well as the kitchenware shop. I can put feelers out to them.

  • I can hook you up with several places here in the Norfolk, Virginia Beach area if you are planning to travel. I’m also a coordinator for the Virginia Urban Homesteaders League so I know we’d have tons of members come out. Just e-mail me if you’re planning to come this far!

    1. I’m hoping to head south when the book first comes out and would love to make a stop in the Norfolk area. I’m adding you to my email list right now! 🙂

  • I would love to get you out to Bellingham, WA! We have a great independent bookstore that hosts lots of author signings, and we also have a fantastic farmer’s market that does chef demos throughout the summer! Maybe you could head north after a stop in Seattle. 🙂

  • Let me know if Chicago is on the tour list. I’d be happy to help you out and have a bunch of ideas for you!

  • Best of luck to you in your upcoming classes as well as your new book coming out.
Wishing you all the best in 2014.
Hope to see and meet you one day if your ever in Texas and in my neck of the woods

  • I have the Southern Cali hook up if you come across the lower 48. Just drop me a line and I’ll mkae the calls, hook you up, feed you well.

  • It goes without saying, I hope, that I will do whatever I can to bring you to Chicago/Oak Park. You can even have your old room back. 😉

    1. Thanks Emily! I am definitely planning on Chicago this time around. And I love staying with you guys! Your guest room is the best. 🙂

  • Hello Marisa- I am a local chef, recipe developer, avid canner and preserver and cooking teacher in the Denver area and would love to invite you out during your tour. We have a great independent bookstore (Tattered Cover); I am also affiliated with Kitchen Table Cooking School (www.kitchentablegv.com) and have many other contacts throughout the area. Please let me know if you’ll make it to the Mile High City! Best, Elizabeth

  • New Haven CT is a great food and farmers market town. I don’t have personal connections to the main markets, run by a nonprofit called CitySeed, but you can reach them at http://cityseed.org/. They are really terrific and do lots of demos, etc., especially at the main Saturday market. I also highly recommend R. J. Julia bookstore (www.rjjulia.com/), about 20-30 minutes from downtown, in Madison, CT. Terrific local bookstore, tons of book signing events and a huge local clientele.

  • I am grateful for my family, whom I love so much, and that I have at least one more Thanksgiving with them living nearby.

  • Hi Marisa – I sent you an email about doing a book signing (and food demo too!) at a farmers’ market I run in New York City sometime this spring. Let me know if that’s of interest to you – I think your new book would be a perfect fit with the demographic. Thanks!
