About a week and a half ago, I mentioned that I’m headed out to Seattle for the Canning Across America weekend on August 29th and 30th. One of the reasons I’m going out there is to teach a canning class at Starry Nights Catering and Events on the 30th. I’ve been really excited about this class, but right now, it looks like it may not happen as there’s only one person signed up for this class.
In order for this class to go forward, I need more people to sign up for this class. I’ve set up an event registration page at Brown Paper Tickets to make it easy for folks to sign up (tickets are now available for purchase online! except that it’s not yet live, feel free to leave a comment if you want to sign up and I’ll follow up with you). I would so love and appreciate it if you could all help me spread the word (many thanks to Shauna who included my class in her preserving post last week). Tell your Seattle-area friends and family to come and spend an afternoon learning about canning with me! All the details are after the jump.
Canning Basics with Marisa McClellan: Fruit Jam (in Seattle)
Sunday, August 30, 2009
2:00 to 3:30 PM
Learn just how easy it can be to make and can a batch of jam from scratch. If you’ve never done any canning because you think it’s too complicated, this class will change your mind and your pantry forever. Each student will head home with the knowledge they need to make their own jam (as well as a small jar of the jam made in class that day).
Marisa is a food writer and cooking instructor from Philadelphia, PA who is coming to the Seattle-area to participate in the Canning Across America weekend. To sign up, email foodinjars@gmail.com.
Cost: $45
Location: Starry Nights Catering & Events
11200 Kirkland Way, #220
Kirkland, WA 98033
Oh I would absolutely LOVE to be a part of this! but I’m getting married on the 30th. Too bad I haven’t learned to be in two places at once! I’m from Oregon and both your and Shauna’s posts about this class have inspired me to find other like minded people in Portland that would like to get together and have canning sessions/classes. I hope the class fills up and you have a great time! and if you’re ever in Portland I’m SURE I can round up enough interested people!
Take Care,
Alix
How much does your class cost?
I would like to sign up for the class. Please add me to the list.
If I lived in Seattle, I would SO be there! Unfortunately I’m on the other coast.
Thank goodness Rebekah Denn put a plug for this class on her blog (Eat all about it). I’ll be there!
Would it help if Starry Nights Catering would put the class on their calendar? Couldn’t find anything about it on their website.
If only I were to be in Seattle! Sounds fabulous.
We just signed up but then I saw that it’s to make jam which we have already tackled….we really want to learn how to can things in the hot bath and pressure cooker…will we learn any of that???
Alix from Oregon,
If you are interested there are canning classes much closer to home just 25 minutes south of Portland in Aurora.
We are just getting ready to update our website this week with the 2010 calendar of classes. We have a variety of classes for beginners to more advanced self-guided bulk canning. You can find our site at http://www.thegoodjar.com and our blog at http://www.thegoodjar.com/blogspot
OHHH, i wish i had known. i would love some tips!!
