Regular Mouth Cuppow Review + Giveaway

July 6, 2012(updated on October 3, 2018)

Back in the early days of my canning jar obsession, there really weren’t fun accessories for mason jars. We had the regular old two-piece lids, the commercial one-piece lids and those white plastic lids designed for dry goods storage. That was it. There weren’t any reCAPs, leather sleeves and if you had a jar cozy, chances were good that it had been a sock in a previous life.

Things have changed rapidly in the last four+ years. Of all the new doo-dads now available for jars, my favorite is the Cuppow. I wrote about the original wide mouth version when it was released back in January and even then had a feeling that I was going to be a rabid fan of this sturdy plastic disk. And I was right. It has rapidly become a favorite in my travel mug world.

Cuppows

About a week ago, I got an email from the creators of the Cuppow. They wanted to let me know that they’d decided to release another lid, this one designed to fit regular mouth jars. What’s more, the new lid was going to feature something they’re calling “Straw-Tek.” That means they’ve designed the sippy hole in such a way that you can also insert a drinking straw into it without entirely crushing the straw.

In addition to really liking the fact that I can fit a straw into this lid, I’m also pleased with its performance as a drinking lid. They’ve made the opposite vent hole slightly bigger on this lid than on my original wide mouth version, and so it doesn’t have that slight whistle that the first one had. Like the original, it’s also easy to clean, entirely free of BPA and doesn’t have any funky, plastic-y scent.

It will come as no surprise to you that I was giddy when my two-pack of regular mouth lids arrived. I popped one open, gave it a rinse and poured myself a jar of iced tea. It was love at first sip.

Because Cuppow creators Joshua and Aaron know that my readers are just as crazy for all things jar as I am, they’ve given me five sets of Cuppows to give away. As in, each winner gets a regular mouth and a wide mouth Cuppow. Pretty nice of them, don’t you think?

If you want a chance to win, here’s what you do.

  1. Leave a comment on this post, telling me about your favorite hot weather beverage.
  2. Comments will close at 11:59 pm east coast time on Wednesday, July 11. Winner will be chosen at random (using random.org) and will be posted to the blog on Thursday, July 12, 2012.
  3. Giveaway is open to US and Canadian residents.
  4. One comment per person, please. Entries must be left on the blog, I cannot accept submissions via email.
Disclosure: Cuppow gave me two review units and are also providing the sets for this giveaway. However, my opinions remain, as always, entirely my own.

  • I love a drink that I used to have as a kid when I spent my summers in Jamaica visiting my dad. We call it “Wash,” but in reality, it’s Limeade made with freshly squeezed limes and turbinado sugar (and H2O, of course). It’s the perfect cool drink on a hot day – especially in the Caribbean. Since I grew up only having it in the summer, I now only make it during this time of year. It’s a seasonal treat that I just can’t get enough of. Yum!

  • Lately I’ve been enjoying Berry Zinger tea brewed strong and lightly sweetened, then chilled and served with cubes of frozen apple juice. Yum!

  • I love to drink perrier with citrus squeezed in, any kind I’ve got kicking around in my fruit bowl, grapefruit, lemon, lime or orange, they all taste yummy. I also like to add a splash of pineapple juice.

  • My hot weather treat beverage is what we call “special red juice”! It is cranraspberry juice with absolute citron. Otherwise, plain Jane water is the way I go. 🙂

  • Ooohhh…my favorite warm weather beverage is definitely ice water with mint and lemon cucumbers 🙂

  • definitely plain water. boring, i know, but there’s nothing like a huge glass of chilled water with no ice.

  • Anything with watermelon. A watermelon agua fresca sounds completely amazing with a cuppow and straw-tek! Especially now that the whistle of the last one has been addressed.

  • My favorite of all times for a Hot Weather Drink would Definately Be lemonaide!

  • I like to brew a pot of loose peppermint tea mixed with loose green tea and chill it. The peppermint somehow makes the drink taste colder and it’s so refreshing over ice after a hot day of running errands.

  • We can’t keep raspberry lemonade in the house at all! We would go through several gallons a week if I keep it in stock…. mmmmmmm

  • My favorite NON-alcoholic hot weather beverage is berry infused iced tea. My fav alcoholic beverage is definately a mojito!

  • My favorite hot weather beverage is cold brewed coffee! I love to add cinnamon to the grounds before straining them out!

  • My new favorite hot weather drink is iced coffee….uses leftover cold coffee, a good bit of skim milk, a shot of sugar & a whiz with my immersion blender gives it a foamy head. Hit it with a couple of ice cubes, and perfecto!

  • Being from the south has really made me a lover of iced tea. I like to put sections of orange & lemon in the tea to infuse it with yummy flavor.

  • I have been wanting to try one of these. My favorite summer drink–cold brewed coffee mixed with milk and a bit of sugar over ice!

  • The fresh cherry margarita is my summer fave! Blend til smooth three handfuls of pitted red cherries, shot of tequila, 1/3 shot of triple sec, 2/3 shot of limeade concentrate, and ice. Yum!

  • Mint lemonade. There’s a lovely French-Canadian woman in Toronto who owns a creperie and makes and markets a drink called Limonana, but homemade is even better.

  • My favorite hot weather beverage is Mexican beer in a frosted glass with about a half cup of Snap E Tom and a squozen wedge of lime!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I can’t pick just one, it’s a three way tie. First, I love a giant glass of ice water (boring, I know). Next, raspberry lemonade (preferably the Olive Garden blend). And finally, on a hot work morning, I love a big ole iced coffee!

  • So many to choose from. I’d say my go to is a plain old iced coffee. But, I just love iced tea with mint cut fresh from the garden. It reminds me of being a kid eating strawberries out of the ditch and playing make believe.

  • My local taqueria makes a mighty good tamarind agua fresca that completely hits the spot on a hot, stuffy summer day!

  • OMG that is the coolest thing ever. I grew up drinking out of mason jars so this is just a natural progression 😀

  • Missed the original cuppow post, but love this idea . . . . thank you for posting a give away — I’ll look for this in my local store, but would love to win one! 😉

  • this summer I have started my morning with an iced coffee, and I always make it in a mason jar!! These would be perfect!

  • I was just about to purchase the original cuppow. Now it appears I may have to wait for the regular mouth ones! Or perhaps I should order as set of each!

  • My favorite drink this summer is iced black tea with coconut (coconut pu’erh from Republic of tea). I make it pretty weak because you can better taste the coconut and add a ton of ice because it’s really about drinking something COLD!

  • If I have to choose just one, it would be lemonade. I’ve been looking at these lids and think they are so awesome!

  • I love anything with fruit in it in the summer: strawberry lemonade, smoothies, sun tea with peaches. With so much fresh and delicious fruit to choose from, how can you go wrong!?!

  • I muddle lemon basil and mint . Add 1/3 POM w/ 2/3 H 2O. Stir add ice. Very refreshing. Thanks 4 the giveaway

  • Favorite beverage of the summer – Homemade, brewed iced tea, lots of ice, no sweetener (I’m from California, so no sweet tea here!), a slice of fresh lemon from my tree – yum! I love to drink it in a mason jar, and go back and forth between water so I don’t go overboard on the caffeine. would love to try the Cuppow!

  • My husband has been making lemonade and putting a few Thai basil leaves in it. That’s awesome. But I do love gin and tonics, too, with extra lime.

And I would dearly love to win this giveaway! Thanks for the chance.

  • I am mainly a water drinker, and in the summer I add a few herbs and citrus fruit or cucumber slices to keep it interesting. This weekend I bought an orange mint plant at the farmer’s market that I am very excited about.

  • Favorite hot weather bev? Yum –> It would have to be “Meadow Mint Tea.” Meadow Mint Tea = strongly brewed spearmint tea blended with lemonade and limeade concentrate to make a sweet concentrate hybrid that can be mixed over ice by the pint or quart jar! (Tequila optional. 😉 )

  • Well I love iced tea too. When I make it I add a few drops of vanilla extract. Also a fan of watermelon infused water. Haven’t made that yet this year, but I will be very soon.

I’m new here by the way and so excited to have found you!

  • Sparkling water is my go- to, but I love lemonade for treats. I also have to have a root beer float before the summer ends, just because.

  • Cuppow! Wow! A fantastic idea! My favorite Mason jar has a handle, and I’d like to take it everywhere. Filled with what, you ask? Iced coffee, made with really strong coffee, lots of ice, a lashing of cream, and finished with a generous sprinkling of sugar. Not for the faint-hearted. 🙂

  • I love iced coffee..my own invention with strong coffee, a splash of half and half, a tablespoon or two of sugar, and a good serving of ice! I could drink this all day!

  • My everyday all day cold drink favorite is iced coffee with milk–and gin and tonic for happy hour.

  • My favorite hot weather drink is: Use one frozen Limeade (slightly thawed) & 4 1/3 cups of lemon-lime soda and mix together. Tart ad thirst quenching. I would like to try the cuppow lids. Thanks.

  • Absolutely white wine, crushed ice and leftover syrup from canning cherries in red wine…so, so yummy!!!

  • My favorite summer beverage is sun tea, but contrary to my Southern upbringing, I drink it unsweetened. 🙂

  • My local coffee shop has the wide mouth version for sale, but those jars don’t fit in cupholders! I’ve been drinking from / burning my fingers on mason jars for a long time, and this is a great step in the right direction. My next hope is for an easy open/close version, maybe with a sliding tab that covers the opening when you’re on the go.

  • Cold, wonderful well water or lemonade with fresh mint (and strawberries when in season) for me! Refreshing!

  • Sweet tea! Lots of it! I love the lids. We have the original and would really like to try the new ones. My 6 kids want the straw opening.

  • What a great product! I’m sure they’ll show up @ Whole Foods soon, but would love to get my hands on one, especially a freebie 🙂

  • I would drink ANYTHING out of a mason jar! But I’d start with a nice cool glass of Strawberry lemonade:) I have never seen nor heard of anything like these lids. I’m very excited about them!

  • Love fresh homemade iced tea with a splash of plain or flavored vodka served over shaved ice. (My kids’ snow cone machine is great for this!)
