Last fall, when I was in Austin, TX waiting for my sister to go into labor, someone sent me the link to a Kickstarter project that they thought I might be interested in. A woman named Karen Rzepecki had designed a mason jar lid with a spout so that she could easily pour things from canning jars without removing the lid.
I thought this was a brilliant idea and immediately signed up to help fund this idea into reality. I posted a link to the project on my Facebook page to help spread the word and soon enough, it was funded.
After months of waiting, my very own reCAP lids arrived last week. They are just as promised – a mason jar cap with a flip-top pour spout. They are leak proof, easy to pour from and made out of BPA-free plastic.
Because I donated $40 to the campaign, I received 10 reCAPs. Though I’m a huge fan of these lids, that’s more than I need to have kicking around my apartment and so I’m sharing. I’m giving away five of these reCAPs to five lucky folks.
And if you don’t want to take your chances on a giveaway, the reCAPs are now available for sale. They cost $6.99 a piece and shipping is free if you buy three or more. They’re currently only available in the regular mouth size, but I hear that they’re working on a wide mouth version, as well as lids with other utilities. I’ll let you all know if I hear anything more!
- To enter the giveaway, leave a comment on this post and share how you’d use a reCAP.
- Comments will close at 11:59 pm eastern time on Friday, April 27, 2012. Winner will be chosen at random (using random.org) and will be posted to the blog on Saturday, April 28, 2012.
- Giveaway is open to U.S. and Canadian readers.
- One entry/comment per person, please.
I would use it for my water bottle! Thanks!
I would love one! I store most of my chopped nuts for baking in mason jars and this pour spout would be great!!!!!!
Am I the only one that would make a martini shaker?
I would use this for drinking out of my mason jar. It’s a great way to keep it from spilling and I could fit a straw through the hole if I wish, as well!
Wow! These are so COOL!!!! I would use it for a water bottle, to keep smaller amounts of cereal and grains fresh in the pantry and easy to pour for my daughter to use too!!
I would use this for sauces and salsa! Really neat!
this would be great for sugar, and cinnamon sugar . Thanks for the giveaway.
I am about to make some cooked tomato-vegetable juice and will freeze most of it. If I have a cap with a spout I could pour out the juice easily.
I would definitely try it as a water bottle, provided it is leak proof. I would also use one for salad dressing, I always shake up my vinegrettes in 1/2 pint or pint jars.
The first thing that came to mind was for salad dressing. Second…my stored grains.
I would use it for my suntea in my canning jar.
What a useful item!
I store all my dry beans, lentils and nuts in my mason jars…..love this new top!!!
those look great! i’d use the lids for water, tea, salad dressings, soup… ANYTHING. what a great idea.
I’d use it for homemade kombucha, salad dressing, and medicinal strength tea brewed by the quart. Thanks for the giveaway!
OMgosh! I would use it for my water, salad dressing, and my yogart smoothies for lunch. I love this idea.
Very cool! I would use it with a jar of sesame seeds, ground flax seed, and oatmeal, which I love for breakfast.
I would use it for small sun tea batches.
Thx!
I would use a reCAP for salad dressing (I currently use a glass bottle, but a mason jar would be much easier to clean) or in place of a regular storage lid for elderflower syrup once it’s opened & in the fridge.
Since I just learned that you can actually put the smaller-mouth canning jars on an Oster blender, I’d use this for my blended smoothies on-the-go. I’m so excited to find this product. I also discovered that parmesan cheese can lids fit the canning jars, but it’s not a water-tight fit. Perhaps the people who want the lids for nuts and dry goods might be able to use that tip, though.
These would be great for salad dressings in jars!
I would store my oils in ball jars with this lid: easy to pour!
I think these would be great for moms who have to tote baby cereal or formula. I would like a couple for dressing and for my morning iced latte!
I would love this!!!! I would use it for my fresh homemade iced tea! Make a pot of blueberry green tea while it’s hot add 2 squeezes of honey and let cool! Once cooled refrigerate. Serve over loads of ice!
This would be great for homemade salad dressing.
This looks fantastic!
Would love to use this in my lunch kit!
This is the best idea!! I would love one.
What a wonderful idea! I can think of so many things that this would be handy for. Please sign me up for the giveaway. Thank you!
I would use for when I open my homemade strawberry syrup!!!! Perfect!!!
I have been looking for something like this for ages. I’d use it for maple syrup and honey and salad dressing.
This lid is genius!! I’m picturing it used when serving coffee to guests. Use it to pour milk or half & half. Use it for pancake syrup…just about anything. The possibilities are endless! I think I need to dig my jars out of storage from my basement!
Lentils. I found a new store with lovely lentils if all hues
So many uses, it’s hard to choose. I could really use it to store rice and make it easy to pour into the rice cup.
It would be a tough choice — to cover the strawberry vinegar or the strawberry vodka?
I would use it like a water bottle. Such a great idea!
I would be able to pour strawberry syrup out of the jar it was canned in, instead of transferring it to a squeeze bottle.
Marisa – I use Mason Jars all the time. I think these lids would be great for salad dressing. Take care – Susan
These look wonderful!! I would use it for Honey.
I’d use it for a water bottle as I hate drinking out of plastic anything.
But I’m also sure I could find a 100 other things to use it for.
Thanks for the chance to win.
Good for maple syrup, for salad dressing, and more!
Hmm…the better question might be how will I *not* use the reCap? For starters, I could use it as a water bottle and also as easy-pour fridge storage for all kinds of salad dressings and infused oils. It could also be used to hold homemade cleaning supplies or extra bath toiletries, not to mention it would be *great* for carrying limited amounts of liquid laundry detergent to and from apartment-building laundry rooms and laundromats. Since I use mason jars not only as glasses, but also as dry food storage and fridge food storage, there would literally be 50 uses and counting for this lid.
This is such a great idea. Very clever and useful!
Salad dressing, for sure! And to bring smoothies to work … yum. 🙂
I would use these caps for the pint jars I keep various spices in. I also would use one for the tea or juice that I take to work every day. What a great product!
These are such a great idea. I could use a ton!
What a brilliant idea. There are still original ideas in the world! Good for you for helping fund them.
I am trying to organize my pantry using glass jars. These tops would be great for lots of supplies.
This would be ideal for making homemade salad dressings. Mix, shake, pour, and store. Great invention.
I just saw this idea and I LOVE it! Thanks for the giveaway!
I supported the project and I use mine for our 1/2 and 1/2, salad dressing (2), popcorn and cereal. LOVE them..can’t wait for the wide mouth version!
I would use mine for all those times your jam/jelly “accidentally” becomes delicious syrup. This little guy would certainly making pouring the “syrup” onto my pancakes and waffles much easier!
I would love to have these to help with my sourdough starters! These would be perfect to make it easy to stir up and pour/measure my starters!
This is so great – I love it!!!
This is a great idea, it is surprising that it hasn’t been done before. It would great to use one of these to pour off the syrup from canned fruit when using the fruit for baking…my husband loves to drink the syrup or I use it as the liquid when making home made granola.
What a great idea! I store most of my grains and cereals in mason jars-these lids would make life a bit easier 🙂
I just inherited 22 boxes of mason jars from my DH’s grandmother, and this would come in really handy.
I think these caps would be great for smoothies in jars because they’re perfect to put a straw in…
I love this lid. I am glad I saw this in time for the time cut off!
I use white vinegar in the laundry and buy the super large bottles from costco. Transferring smaller amounts to mason jars and pouring using the recap would be a lot easier than struggling with the large bottle.
I’d love to try one of these lids on jars of maple syrup friends put up and gifted me with!
