The holidays are coming, and often during this season of celebration, I find myself cooking in unfamiliar kitchens. Over the years, I’ve strategically planted good knives in the kitchens of my sister and parents to make food prep easier when I visit. However, when life takes me to other kitchens (particularly if we’ve rented a vacation house for our gathering), I’ve been known to bring a sharp knife along with me to ease meal prep.
This holiday season, instead of employing my “chef knife in the luggage” trick, I’ll be tucking a Wüsthof Classic Traveler Set into my bag*. This seven piece kit includes a six inch Cook’s Knife, a five inch Serrated Utility Knife, a three and a half inch Paring Knife, a pair of Kitchen Shears, a Waiter’s Corkscrew, and a handy little sharpener.
It also comes with a handy little carrying case that I’m a little bit obsessed with (I’ve got it tucked into the crook of my arm as I write this post).
My friends at Wüsthof want to help more people discover their Traveler’s Set and so have offered one up for a giveaway. Here’s how to enter.
- Leave a comment on this post and tell me about something that you’re making for Thanksgiving this year.
- Comments will close at 11:59 pm eastern time on Saturday, November 7, 2015. Winners will be chosen at random and will be posted to the blog on Sunday, November 8, 2015.
- Giveaway open to United States residents only. Void where prohibited.
- One comment per person, please. Entries must be left via the comment form on the blog at the bottom of this post.
*If you’re flying, make sure that you keep all your sharp implements in your checked luggage. There’s no faster way to lose a good knife than to try to get it through security).
Disclosure: Wüsthof sent me one of their Traveler’s Sets for photography and review purposes and are providing the giveaway unit, both at no cost to me. No additional compensation was provided. All opinions remain my own.
I think I’ll be making spinach soufflé and pecan pie to go with the family Thanksgiving dinner.
Since we’ve been together, my husband travels with me to my parents and cooks dinner for my family. The women of the kitchen love it. My favorite dish he makes, with my helping prep, is a rye bread stuffing with tarragon and pine nuts!
I’m planning on making mini pumpkin pies as it’s only me & my daughter who enjoys it , rest of the family don’t care about it….so individual servings would be fun.
In addition to the regular things, I will be making cranberry chutney, mmm mmmm good 🙂
Yikes! I need to think about Thanksgiving soon. Probably veggie/tofu pot pie will be on the menu.
I’m going to make a roasted vegetable cornucopia. Should look and taste great!
Homemade pumpkin pie from pumpkins grown in our garden.
Oh, wouldn’t his be wonderful to have. I teach cooking to elementary children and this set would “sharp” to travel with to the schools.
Turkey day feast at school: Veggie soup, probably a pickily topping for the soup, cornmeal muffins, homemade butter and an apple cranberry crisp.
I’m hosting this year so likely: prime rib and all the turkey you can eat, along with all the other things to round it out.
Thanks for the giveaway Marisa!
I know for sure I will be making cranberry sauce, turkey, and potatoes, but not sure what on the appetizer side of things.
My mother always hosts our Thanksgiving dinner. My contribution varies from year to year, but I have a recipe for pecan pie bars that has become quite popular. Love your books!
I get to cook twice this year, Thursday and Saturday. Turkey both times. Yum
Nice giveaway.
For the first time, I’m making my own sauerkraut for Thanksgiving. And I’m really excited about it! lol
I’ll be making an apple sausage stuffing with whole-wheat bread and red bell peppers.
I’ll be making cornbread and chicken dressing – a tradition with my husband’s family! Serving it with your Apple -Cranberry Jam.
Hoping to win this wonderful set so glad I happened to read an email link to your blog. I love love love all your recipes and can’t wait until your next cookbook and visit back to my hometown of Charlottesville. I got to meet you at the Happy Cook when you came for a book signing/class. Come back soon
I’m bringing dessert. Probably Apple galettes.
Every year I help my mom cook. This year it should be a “small” meal, just the simple classics, but that means I’ll be chopping piles of onion, celery, apples, and raisins for stuffing – easily my favorite thing on the menu.
Pumpkin and Apple pie, caramelized turkey breast and some greens
I will be making pies.
I will be making German Potato Salad in addition to the traditional spread of Turkey, stuffing, cranberries….and just the thought of all the wonderful tastes is making my mouth water.
I’ll be making the pecan pies and a dip for raw vegetables as assigned!
I’ll be making an apple crisp this year.
I’m cooking the whole meal this year! Turkey, dressing, gravy, and pie. My favorite part is a leftover turkey sandwich!
I’m cooking a whole meal since both sons will be home this year. How I look forward to these times.
I pretty much make the entire traditional meal –turkey, dressing, gravy, cranberry sauce, roasted autumn veggies, mashed potatoes, green beans, apple pie, pecan pie, whipped cream–the works! I have requested that my youngest son smoke a pork loin for me this year though.
I’ll be making some stuffing and pumpkin pie. Two things I can’t wait for this time of year to enjoy
I will be making delicata squash, with pancetta and spinach.
Besides the normal traditional food I’m going to make a peach dump cake that is super easy and everyone loves.
I’ll be making my first Thanksgiving dinner ever! I’m making everything from turkey, to sides, to dessert!
