Friends, have you seen the Flip Cap yet? It’s the latest product from the folks who make the reCAP Pour lid and it’s pretty terrific. It’s a lid designed to fit on a regular mouth mason jar with an easy opening flip top.
They’re great because they give you easy access to your homemade foods with just a simple flick of the lid. Pop them on your pickles, or the jam your kids reach for most often. They’re also useful if you struggle to open a screw top lids (my grandmother would have loved them).
They also make a pair of shaker tops for the flip caps, which attach with a simple twist. I have a jar of homemade citrus salt that I plan on pairing with the fine shaker top so that I use it more (as things stand, it often gets pushed to the back of the shelf).
I have two of the Flip Cap Kits to give away this week. Each winner will get a Flip Cap and a set of screens to to fit. Here’s how to enter.
- Leave a comment on this post and tell me how you’d use a Flip Cap in your kitchen.
- Comments will close at 11:59 pm east coast time on Sunday, September 6, 2015. The winner will be chosen at random and will be posted to the blog on Monday, September 7, 2015.

Disclosure: The folks at reCAP provided the sets you see pictured here and the units for giveaway. They are also Food in Jars sponsors. However, the opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
hmmmm….the possibilities seem endless!
parmesan cheese
I’d love these lids to use with my homemade garlic powder, homemade herbs de Provence, and grated Parmesan cheese.
Love the idea of keeping these on my most used (and open) preserves… I’m thinking pickles around here!
I have a hard time opening lids, so I would definitely use it on jam and other sticky things. Not all of the members in my house are very good at keeping those rims clean!
I’d also use them on pantry item jars for items that I usually buy in bulk, like rice or seeds/nuts.
Traveling cross country I found your book Food in Jars at a Bass Pro Store. I love the idea of small batch canning. Would use these lids for jars of Granola and storing teas.
I use canning jars for just about anything I bring in the house to consume later….rice, beans, dried peas, spices, etc. I discovered the white plastic reusable lids last year and they have been a lifesaver. I have severe neuropathy in both hands and arms and I am glad to see a company make life a little easier for all of us! ๐ The shaker inserts would be great for sunflower seeds, etc. The smaller holes for homemade spices, rubs and 10X sugar. Even without the inserts, the flip lid itself would be a lifesaver. My biggest fear is that while I’m trying to open a jar of jelly and banging it on the counter top, I might break the jar. Guess I didn’t need that jelly, after all! LOL ๐
bulk spices and homemade sprinkle cheese
Oh, I say, ‘Parmesan cheese,’ please. But my husband says, ‘Pickles,’ thank you!
These look perfect for homemade sweet pickles where the juice always makes the rings sticky no matter how hard I try to keep them clean.
I would love to use these for all my homemade seasoning mixtures and our fresh grated cheeses!

Hm, like you, I’d go with the salt!
As a shaker for coarse salt, sea salt and home-made salts… They would look pretty on the shelf and make it easier to salt things evenly ๐
I’d use with our homemade dried hot pepper shake and/or grated cheese mixture.
So many ideas for these!
Dried herbs, strained vinegar, coarse grind peppercorns, dry rub spice mixes and of course dried red peppers.
Homemade spices, cheeses, pickles, sugars, and on and on!
Parmesan cheese!
Ooh, I;d definitely use the shaker top for herb and mushroom salts!
My first use would be to convert a mason jar into a drink shaker. I’ve tried recycling parmesan cheese tops but they don’t seal well. I bet this would do the trick.
Drinks, sprouts, sugar, or cheese
I would love to make my own spice blends using my dried herbs and seasalt. This is my second year having a garden and this website has been such an incredible wealth of information for me. Thank you!
I think they’d be great for easing arthritis pain. The twisting action can be so difficult, and have lasting repercussions!
I’d use them for garlic salt and jars of bulk food.
I would use the flip top for flour or seasoning blends or bread crumbs. There are so many possibilities !
I love canning jars…use them all the time. These lids are nice. I would put crushed red pepper flakes in a jar with lid like this.
