Giveaway: Tulid Reusable Leak-Proof Lids

Traditional two piece canning jar lids are designed to seal easily and safely. That is what they’re best at and they do it well. However, those of us who use our mason jars for dry goods, leftovers, liquids, and other acts of storage and toting know that two piece lids often leave something to be desired.

Ball does make some plastic one piece lids, but they are neither air or liquid tight, so their utility is limited. Happily, the folks at Simpler Products have stepped into the void with a product called the Tulid. It’s a one piece lid that is reusable, totally leak-proof, and has a removable gasket that makes it dead easy to clean.

I first discovered Tulid last fall when they were running their Kickstarter campaign. I backed the effort and got a package containing lids for both regular and wide mouth jars in early February. I’ve been using these lids very happily on a daily basis since then and am contemplating ordering more (they sell for $25 for three lids).

The Tulid lids are great because they give you a very secure seal. I know that when I put them on a jar holding teriyaki sauce or maple syrup (two things I find myself storing on a regular basis), if the jar tips over in the fridge, it is not going to leak.

I also appreciate how easy they are to clean. The silicone gaskets pop out so that you can clean them completely and then slip right back into the lid when they are dry. The tops of the lid also work with wet erase markers, which means that you can clearly mark what’s in the jars (so that no one confuses the teriyaki sauce with the maple syrup).

  • I’d love to use these to transport my yogurt to work, now my jars leak so I have to put them in a zip top bag

  • I love to use mason jars as a way to bring beverages with me to work. These lids would be a great way to keep from spilling coffee on myself in the morning.

  • Wow. I’d use these for leftovers (wide mouth pints are perfect for soup-for-lunch-at-work; except for the occasional leak) and for opened jars of fruit.

  • I store everything in these jars! Would love to have lids that don’t leak. Maple syrup is especially sticky.

  • I truly would use them for anything and everything because everything in my pantry is in a mason jar. After a particularly terrible round with pantry moths, everything is in glass. But I would particularly like these for taking things in my lunch, they would be quieter in the canteen than two piece lids!

  • Refrigerator pickles! I hate wasting a canning lid on them, but the plastic Ball lids leak, and then there is sticky vinegar all over the fridge!

  • I make grape juice from my own grapevines, and an open jar can get messy in the fridge, not to mention I hate wasting even a drop of my precious grape juice! These lids would be fantastic for that, as well as maple syrup. I like the salad dressing ideas too. Great product!

  • I’m part of a circle of friends who do concentrated canning. Last year I did pickles and green beans. Other friends did fruit, others did tomatoes, another did a mountain of plums from his rental property. We also end up sharing bulk local honey and #2 maple syrup nearly every year. Then we swap.

    I will use the Tulids for putting up fresh herbs that I dry myself, so they’re accessible.

    Just a hint for those who use a lot of canned product: HOT GLUE some lids and rings together so you end up with an easy-to-handle canning jar closure. I don’t do it with all of them, because the rings can be reused year-after-year with new flats. It sure makes life simpler.

  • Those lids would be awesome for using on jars of homemade salad dressing, soups & stews, gravies, extracts, etc…so tired of cleaning up the mess when the jar gets tipped in the fridge, and my husbands lunch bags.

  • Syrup for breakfast and salad dressings for lunch & dinner! I work crazy shifts and would use these for any meal!

  • I am pretty much with everyone else here in that they would be great for on the go foods. I hate using 2 piece lids. I usually manage to drop one of them when I open the jar.

  • Soup for work. I vac seal mine down with my Foodsaver mason jar attachment to make the jar non-spill in my bag, but these would be SO much less hassle!

  • What wouldn’t I use them for is the question… Leftovers, making iced tea to take to work, and any number of other things. They’d be a reat alternative to over-using metal rings & lids that tend to rust.
