Giveaway: Set of Three GIR Silicone Spatulas

January 21, 2014(updated on October 3, 2018)

GIR spatulas

When I was growing up, one of the staple tools in our kitchen was the trusty rubber-headed spatula. Known to us as a rubber scraper, it was my mother’s go-to utensil for cleaning bowls of cookie dough, saving every drop of leftover spaghetti sauce, and generally ensuring that not a drop of food was wasted.

However, those scrapers we used to use had some serious drawbacks. The rubber heads never lasted particularly long, they weren’t particularly sturdy in high temperature situations, and they had to be removed from the wooden handles all the time to prevent any grossness from collecting under there.

Happily, the flexible spatula has come a very long way in recent years. They nearly all have heatproof heads and my favorite ones are the fully encased silicone models where the heads don’t separate from the handle. I find that they last a whole lot longer than the previous generations, and I love that they can go in the dishwasher.

One company that’s making particularly awesome spatulas these days is GIR. They are made from food-safe silicone with a polymer core. They are heat proof up to 464 degrees F and are really great for stirring simmering batches of jams and jellies.

Thanks to the nice folks at GIR, I have a set of three spatulas (the mini, the skinny, and the ultimate) to give away today. Here’s how to enter:

  1. 2014 is great so far! My daughter got engaged to a great guy on New Years and my son is on his way for a weeks visit! I’m a happy mom.

  2. Thus far, I’m making good progress on my goals to learn to can more and prioritize exercise. I am working my way through your book – last week was cranberry catsup and this week is lime curd (which I am SUPER excited about!).

  3. Hopeful. With several job prospects on the horizon. Maybe after 9 yrs a stay-at-home mom. I can finally get back to work, =)

  4. 2014 has required a lot of changing from me, which is not something I handle well, historically speaking. No time to change like the present, though, and here’s hoping it’s change for the better.

  5. 2014 has been treating me excellently well. It has given me some great times singing with friends, and a new milk kefir culture. I’d be excited to use these spatulas for the kefir, since you’re not supposed to use metal implements.

  6. I have already put up a few jars of quince in white wine sauce, hoping to use it to top some angel food cake for birthdays this winter, I hope to more new canning in 2014, especially ketchup, as well as getting back on track with a healthier lifestyle – better eating, more exercise.

  7. 2014 has been a little rough so far with a major surgery but I’m starting to recover & really looking forward to the rest of the year!

  8. My goal is to get a job within the 1st 6 months of this year. I’ve been unemployed too long. Cooking is my calming mechanism!

  9. 2014 has been nice. Enough happening to keep it interesting but not so much that it is chaos. It’s just right.

  10. 2014 is going well so far–my word of the year is “More”. Not more things, but more experiences, more knowledge and more ideas. Today I did something I’ve wanted to do for YEARS–bought my ticket to the Mother Earth News Fair. I even made a reservation at the closest state park so I can camp there and travel a short distance to the fair each day. More experience? Attending the fair (finally!) and camping by myself (a first), so check. More knowledge? The Mother Earth News Fair, full of information, so check. More ideas? I’m counting on it, so check!

  11. So far, I’m still dealing with the remnants of 2013, but by the middle of February, I should be breathing a bit easier!

And, I totally agree about the grossness that collects on a rubber spatula with a wooden handle… ick…

  12. 2014 started with my turning 31 on January 1st. I started a ZUMBA class during my lunch breaks and my 1-year-old son started walking. I’ve got a gallon zip lock of blueberries I picked over the summer and another filled with cut up peaches both ready for jam. Things can only go up from here!

  13. I love those spatulas too!

So far, 2014 hasn’t been too great — it started with me being very sick for a while.

  14. It’s going alright though I could be doing much better on my goals and resolutions! Gotta get back to work on those!

  15. time is going so quickly, it still feels like 2013. this year will definitely be better, from both a personal and a business related standpoint, and I cant wait to have it pan out

  16. I’ve had great momentum and productivity so far this year. I’m hoping it lasts, instead of fizzling out about mid-February like last year!

  17. 2014 is going great so far….we’ve had some beautiful snowfalls here in north central IL. Being retired I can shovel/blow snow when I want so I get to enjoy it more than those who have to work. Doing more cooking!

  18. 2014 has been the best year I have had in a long time!! I am in my final semester of Nursing School. I committed to exercise each day (helps relief stress from school), and to make better food choices for myself. I am actually sticking to this, and couldn’t be more proud of myself. I love to cook and would be proud to use this in my kitchen.. Hope 2014 is being equally as good to you and yours!

  19. So far 2014 is starting well. I have so many plans for this year, one of which is to learn to really cook well! Even if it is just for me.

  20. I’ve been getting out the old cookbooks and trying to plan out my meals for the week and shop only what is on my list. This is a try at saving some $ and also nutrition and trying to expand my family’s diet. So far so good. πŸ™‚

  21. 2014…so far so good.

On the canning front, I was able to get a small batch of Meyer lemons so that I can make my annual lemon pickles. Also, I just got back from a week-long Aruban vacation. I cannot complain. ~ksp

  22. So far, it has been interesting. My 5 year old has to have hernia surgery, but our house may have finally sold….it is going to be an interesting month!

  23. So far so good for 2014. Just waiting for spring to come so I can get the garden going and get started with chickens πŸ™‚

  24. I was on vacation the first few weeks of January and now I am back to work. So far so good, although I feel like I never left!

  25. 2014 is going great! Except that the dishwasher gave out over Christmas and I am eagerly awaiting delivery of the new and improved version so that I can spend less time cleaning up and more time cooking. These spatulas would be just the right tool for getting every last drop of marmalade out of the pot!

  26. We just adopted two kittens from a LA shelter. They are running us ragged, and are so cute while doing so.

  27. We’re getting a boatload of snow right now, and with the radiators warming us up, I’d say that 2014 is treating us pretty well!

    • I have had a good start to 2014. I have my health, I enjoy my grandkids and I have a great job. I am hoping to retire the end of this year. Life is good……………

  28. This year has been pretty good so far. Living in sunny Southern California, we’re enjoying some lovely weather. The kids had a nice long break from school, but they went back last week. I’ve been able to try out some new recipes with some of my Christmas gifts. Life is good.

  29. 2014 has brought up some new transitions for my partner and I, and we’re looking forward to what the rest of the year brings! Here’s to new adventures!

  30. My year is going good so far. My son is turning one and walking all over the place! I’m starting to plan my garden that I abandoned last year and I’m excited about all the wonderful veggies I’m going to can πŸ™‚

  31. 2014 is treating me pretty well so far, I’ve kept up on Apartment Therapy’s January Cure (which means a lot of cleaning), and am working on my goals for my health!

  32. 2014 is my year! I’m finally paring down the waste and clutter in our house, enjoying my first year of my marriage, my family is healthy and happy and I’ve finally gotten the job I’ve been waiting for! Even if I don’t win theses, thanks for posting, because I need some heat proof ones. The hubby doesn’t get that they aren’t good for stir fry!

  33. 2014 so far is treating me well! I just finished my batch of beets (carefully eating them at my desk at lunch, precariously balanced and suspicious of every drop of juice) and am looking forward to the weekend’s Farmers Market to see what else I can get and jar up.

  34. Week two at the new job, mini-milestone birthday survived, and it might just snow tonight – so far 2014 has rocked!

  35. 2014 is treating me well so far, except for the endless snow and sub zero temps! I do hope to win these spatulas, they will match my kitchen and be very useful!

  36. January has been filled with a lot of COLD, SNOW and TIME spent with good friends. I am also keeping up with my goal to try new recipes in my cookbooks rather than sticking with dishes I make all the time.

Yesterday we were discussing the fact that my two smallest spatulas have gone missing/broken in half, so getting three spatulas would be most welcome.

  37. So far, so good in 2014. Though I’m hoping the year holds some great new work and projects for me! Thanks for the giveaway.

  38. 2014 has been good. We have not had enough snow for sledding or snow shoeing, but still good. Enjoying taking a class through the extension office, and looking forward to canning even more next year.

  39. Although it is colder than we like in central Florida, we are still very fortunate compared to those of you in the northeast who are being hit by a blizzard tonight. We will drop below freezing here tonight and probably for the next few nights, and my dreams of growing lettuce all winter have frozen, too. However, I am looking forward to spring, a new baby grandson in the summer, and some exciting projects that I am looking forward to both in the kitchen and in the crafts and sewing arenas.

  40. 2014 has been days filled with lots of learning and growing in many ways. Looking forward to more learning and lots of bumps as we learn and grow through the year.

  41. Bracing for some very cold weather and quite a bit of snow in New England. Hoping for a snow day and a reason to do some more baking. Grateful to have had lots to celebrate so far this year and two birthdays coming over the next two weeks: my husband’s and five-year-old son’s!

  42. 2014 has been great so far! It’s hard to believe that January is already more than halfway over, but it’s been a good month. Lots of working and exploring new hobbies!

  43. So far 2014 has sadly been pretty similar to 2013 – which I’m hoping will change soon! I really hope this year will be the year I finish my degree and get a new job I actually like.

  44. I’m excited to see how the rest of 2014 shapes up. If these past 21 days have been any indication I’m in for an interesting year.

  45. Everything about this year is off to a great start! And now that my little part of the world is all coated in a pretty thick layer of fluffy beautiful snow, all the better!

  46. 2014 has brought us a horrible stomach bug and several respiratory bugs. I’m hoping February will be better.

  47. 2014 has been a bit rough so far, but I think that’s mostly because I haven’t had enough time in the kitchen to cook! Here’s hoping things calm down a bit and I can get back into the swing of everything.

  48. So far doing good. Be glad when January is over. It means Spring is closer. Love the color of them hope I get a chance to win at least one. Thank you.

  49. so far very good, my acne is clearing up, and I have been very consistent with eating healthy and working out

  50. We’re doing good so far. Nothing spectacular but as long as we’re healthy and safe, that’ll be great.
