Giveaway: New Ball Heritage Collection Green Jars

January 29, 2014

green heritage jars

As you might remember, Ball released a line of limited edition blue glass pint jars last year. It was a fun throwback to canning jars of yore and I enjoyed using them throughout the 2013 canning season (though I will confess, they do make my peaches look a bit little sickly).

This year, Ball is continuing the special edition trend with a limited release of green jars. These jars will be available in both regular mouth pint jars and wide mouth quarts, which is particularly exciting for those of who like to use wide mouth quart jars as drinking glasses (I’ll actually have more about my habit of drinking out of wide mouth quarts later this week). Just like the blue jars, they will be making a finite number, so if you fall in love with this particular look, make sure to stock up sooner rather than later.

Typically, I don’t like to write about new jars and products without having had a chance to experience them personally, but we had a little shipping snafu and the jars that were coming to me got a bit delayed. However, I promised a good giveaway this week and so made an exception. When I do get these jars into my hot little hands, I’ll be posting a follow-up post and some photos, so that you can get a better idea of what they look like in the real world.

Fillmore Container recently published a post on their blog about these new jars and they have a couple of additional images if you’re interested. They’ll also be taking online orders for them soon.

Now, here’s the giveaway scoop. The nice folks at Ball have given me 10 cases of the green pint jars to give away to 10 lucky winners (each winner will receive one case, which contains 6 jars). Here’s how to enter:

  1. Leave a comment on this post and share how you’d use these new jars in your home.
  2. Comments will close at 12 noon on Sunday, February 2, 2014. Winners will be chosen at random and will be posted to the blog later that day.
  3. Giveaway open to US residents only (so sorry, my further-flung readers).
  4. One comment per person, please. Entries must be left via the comment form on the blog at the bottom of this post.

Disclosure: The jars for this giveaway have been provided by the manufacturer at no cost to me. However, my opinions remain entirely my own.

Sharing is caring!

  1. I love, love, love this new green color!! I will use them for spices, pantry storage, and for canning jams, apples, and salsa : )

  2. I think I’d use these to can up some nice venison in broth, though with the green glass it would be good for canning light sensitive foods as well….

  3. These green jars would compliment the pickles I have planned to try this year. I grew up helping my grandmother with her garden, canning, and dehydrating. Life took me to the big city but have moved back after 20 years and slowly relearning the skills my grandmother taught me. This past year I used blue jars for jams and this year is pickling. Wouldn’t they look great in green jars?

  4. I love the colored jars; the blue ones are so pretty I HAD to buy some, and I am so excited to buy some of these green ones too. I can’t wait to pickle some jalapenos and can them in the green jars! πŸ™‚

  5. I love these! I will be using the green jars for my son’s wedding, then re-using them for drinking glasses, flowers and storing dry goods. They are beautiful!

  6. What would I put in green jars?! Pickled peppers. Dilly beans. Quince jelly. By next Feb, when I have eaten all of my summer bounty, the jars would begin to be filled with kombucha, coffee, fresh pressed juice. I’m looking forward to it already!

  7. O wow!! I would be doing some major organizing my food by color!!! the blue I did a bunch of blue berry jams and other jams they look so nice!! and so the green I would can my pickles and I would do my cowboy candy peppers in them I cant wait for them to hit the market!

  9. Green is my favorite color, matches my eyes! I’m retiring back to my home state in the next 2 months where I’ll have a large garden and fruit trees so I would be using these beautiful jars to can some of that abundance.

  10. I’d use them for everything, pickles, relish, salsa, venison and dry storage. They’d probably make their way into the drinking glass cupboard as soon as they were emptied.

  11. Pickled green beans! Well, pickled everything, actually. πŸ˜€

One might find its way to my bathroom to hold makeup brushes. πŸ˜‰

  12. My entire house has shades of green, inside & out. I would fill them with candles, I love the glow of green glass! <3

  13. I have been fortunate enough to buy some blue but I haven’t found the green ANYWHERE. I would LOVE some ! If it can be canned, it goes in my colored jars. I would also like to store dehydrated herbs in the green. It would keep them nicely and would make a beautiful display in my kitchen !

  14. I would use them for iced tea while we work in the garden this spring/summer. It is my sons favorite color and he does all the hard stuff in the garden so what a nice little surprise that would be! I also use them to hold gifts and decorating. I, like everyone else here, really hope to get some!

  15. Hello and thank you so much for the give-a-way opportunity! I enjoy making things myself and teaching others to do the same. For these jars I like to make homemade laundry soap and give to others with the recipe tied on with a ribbon. Sometimes I like to make things like elderberry syrups and teas in my jars for the winter and give those with directions as well, sometimes I like to brew my own keifir in my jars and teach others the process in our homesteading groups.

Its great to teach, learn and share!

    Thank you!
    Karen

  16. I would use them to make the No-Cook overnight refrigerator oatmeal. I’d also like to preserve some lemons. Thanks for the chance to win these new jars!

  17. These Ball jars are absolutely stunning! Remind me of my Mother’s ‘green’ dΓ©cor she had on the kitchen window shelf. I would love to use these for canning cherries for my family like my Mother did for me. Also, would love to experiment with our high power blender and make my own applesauce. Our Satsuma tree started producing this year ( a long 4 year wait, lol). I would have to learn how to jar those sweeties!

  18. I would use them to learn canning from my mother, we have been military for the past 21 years so canning has only been a dabbling venture, so I am looking forward to my forever home and growing my own food and learning from my mother and grandmother

  19. They’re beautiful! I would use them for canning, of course, but also as drinking glasses, flower vases, and dry goods storage. You can never have enough Ball jars πŸ™‚

  26. I am really hoping to can lots of green beans and peas this year. Not to forget the fermenting that I want to do. I am expecting a baby, I’m 9 weeks pregnant, at the end of August and winning these jars would help my baby expenses as I would have more money to buy diapers instead of having to decide if the baby goes diaperless o.O so I can buy canning jars. LOL Just Kidding …. well mostly about the diaperless baby.
    Thank you so much! πŸ˜€

  27. I store a lot of my food in jars, cereal, rice, pasta, etc…. Would love to have these sitting on my counter with my food stored in them.

  28. I’d love to make sconces for my deck.
Put sand, pebbles & a candle inside.
Mount the jars on rustic pieces of wood
    & hang outside.

  29. I would us them for my 1st round of canning…..EVER!! I’ve gotten intested in this, lately, and would love to be able to say these were the 1st jars I ever used!! πŸ™‚

  30. While I think these would make the loveliest vases, I think I’d put something mostly translucent and preferably pink in them – maybe peaches in syrup!

  31. I LOVE green! I am going to try and make bread n butter zucchini pickles. I would ise some for iced tea too! Thank you for a chance to win.

  32. I would have my girl scout troop learn the fine art of canning with the produce that will come out of this years garden. Inspiring future canners to be pantry sustainable.

  36. Want to start canning again. Haven’t for years since the kids are all grown. Love the green color of these Ball canning jars…and an entire box!?! WOW!

  37. This year will be my first year to can. Money is very tight so this would help tremendously. I plan to can tomatoes, green beans, okra, vegetable soup, and fruits for sure.

  38. Oh the possibilities – Of course I would have to use them for canning but I think they would find their way into a button holder, vase, etc…at least one should be on display

  39. Well I promised a certain someone (my hubby) if I learned how to can I’d put up some bread and butter pickles for him. I gotta make good on my promise.

  40. I would use them for not only food storage, but crafts as well. They are so gorgeous that I would be making gifts for people such as; candles, fill with candies, tea, coffee, etc…Tying a ribbon around the rim or decorative cloth under the lid and it’s a perfect homemade gift for friends and family.

  41. I would use them to store grains, flours, pasta and spices in exchange for the clear ones I currently use. I think it would be a lovely addition in the kitchen.

  42. I would use these jars for drinks at my daughters birthday party. I have the blue ones already and the two colors would look wonderful together for her under the sea themed party!

  43. Oh, how lovely! I’d use one for a vase, one for sand and seashells and a votive candle, and the rest for fun storage or gifts.

  44. I would use them for jellies….this will be the first year I will be canning that….cannot wait….thank you

  45. Love these! I just had a horrible jar episode which resulted in a lot of broken canning jars, so these would be fabulous replacements. I use them for everything from lunch containers to drinking glasses to putting up pickles.

  46. These are beautiful! They’d probably start off used for dry good/ baking supplies storage. But I bet they’d all slowly end up with all the drinking glasses πŸ™‚

  47. I can see using them as cute vases and as containers for various items such as buttons and paper clips.

  48. Oh, I can’t believe I missed out on the blue jars!
I would use these pretty green ones as vases for dandelions.
