Giveaway: New Ball Heritage Collection Green Jars

January 29, 2014

green heritage jars

As you might remember, Ball released a line of limited edition blue glass pint jars last year. It was a fun throwback to canning jars of yore and I enjoyed using them throughout the 2013 canning season (though I will confess, they do make my peaches look a bit little sickly).

This year, Ball is continuing the special edition trend with a limited release of green jars. These jars will be available in both regular mouth pint jars and wide mouth quarts, which is particularly exciting for those of who like to use wide mouth quart jars as drinking glasses (I’ll actually have more about my habit of drinking out of wide mouth quarts later this week). Just like the blue jars, they will be making a finite number, so if you fall in love with this particular look, make sure to stock up sooner rather than later.

Typically, I don’t like to write about new jars and products without having had a chance to experience them personally, but we had a little shipping snafu and the jars that were coming to me got a bit delayed. However, I promised a good giveaway this week and so made an exception. When I do get these jars into my hot little hands, I’ll be posting a follow-up post and some photos, so that you can get a better idea of what they look like in the real world.

Fillmore Container recently published a post on their blog about these new jars and they have a couple of additional images if you’re interested. They’ll also be taking online orders for them soon.

Now, here’s the giveaway scoop. The nice folks at Ball have given me 10 cases of the green pint jars to give away to 10 lucky winners (each winner will receive one case, which contains 6 jars). Here’s how to enter:

  1. Leave a comment on this post and share how you’d use these new jars in your home.
  2. Comments will close at 12 noon on Sunday, February 2, 2014. Winners will be chosen at random and will be posted to the blog later that day.
  3. Giveaway open to US residents only (so sorry, my further-flung readers).
  4. One comment per person, please. Entries must be left via the comment form on the blog at the bottom of this post.

Disclosure: The jars for this giveaway have been provided by the manufacturer at no cost to me. However, my opinions remain entirely my own.

Sharing is caring!

  1. I think these would be great for gifting this Christmas! I love the color. I will probably get some as glasses too.

  2. I’d use them to help me maintain my independence. Since I began losing my sight, my daughter in law has been helping me find and prepare recipes I can put up in jars. When I get hungry I grab a jar and heat it up. It helps me stay on my special diet and not have to depend on someone else to prepare food for me every day.

  3. My husband and I can sauerkraut every year to give away. Most years we do over 100 quarts (mix of quarts and pints). We have been doing this for over 10 years. We never charge anything, but we do ask people to give us the empty jars back. Every year we find ourselves buying more jars since we never get them all back. This is becoming expensive, but we so enjoy treating our family, friends and even acquaintances to the pleasure of real homemade sauerkraut. I would use the jars to give away sauerkraut!

    • These would look lovely in my craft room with threads, buttons and other whatnots in them. I also can and they would look great with champagne jelly in them. The jelly is clear so the jars would stand alone.

  4. These would be great filled with homemade salsa, with a pretty ribbon on the neck and given away for Christmas!

  5. I’d use them with Cuppow lids to drink from. I also use jars to take my lunch sometimes. They are great for soup and salads…

  6. I would use these jars for homemade soups, and chicken since that is what I am using the most from last summers canning.

  7. My goodness! I would use my six jars to can my pickled zucchini. I’ve got four old blue jars that I always reserve especially for my dilled beans and they are so pretty. My zucchini pickles cannot go another year without these precious, pretty jars.

  8. I can a lot and make about 80 quarts of dill pickles every summer! Wouldn’t they look beautiful in these green jars. I would also use them as vases and for special gifts to my special friends. It would be so exciting to win these.

  9. I use Ball jars and lids….have always loved them. I can almost ALL our own food now and enjoy the assurance of quality that Ball gives my product. I have a confidence in their product through years of consistent quality. Would love to win so I can continue to use my favorite jars and lids. πŸ™‚

  10. I would love to use in my new pressure canner, but they are kind of “too pretty” to use just for canning. I’m thinking vases, new ball jar soap pumps, pen storage. craft room storage. Oh the possibilities!

  11. I’d use them as drinking glasses until some late night when I desperately needed just one more jar. I’m curious how things would look in them. I like Lynnette’s idea of using them as vases too.

  12. Hmm… I would use them for both storage of dry goods, and I could see one or two with a small votive candle reflecting the beautiful color! Or perhaps a small batch of jam or jelly? So many possibilities! Thank you!

  13. I’d probably just use them for drinking glasses or a quick refrigerator pickle–but I love these jars, like the green so much more than the blue!
