apple ginger jam on the stove

It’s been a week now, and I’m still not used to the time change and the early, early darkness. I do love the coziness of dusk at 4 pm, but it sure does put a crimp in my ability to take pictures in the natural light. I’m reacquainting myself with my flash and photography light, but it’s just not the same. How are you all handling the yearly shift back?

Tea, oatmeal, and @aimeebourque's beautiful book!

My husband turned 38 on Saturday, and so we spent most of the last three days celebrating in a very lovely, low-key way. I blew off doing any work on Friday and we went on a mission to find a new love seat (we bought one two years ago from Pottery Barn and it is falling to pieces. Most disappointing). The next day, I made a big dinner and Scott’s mom came over. We ate ourselves silly, watched a movie and then went on a late night adventure through the snowfall to Whole Foods. Sunday, we sat under blankets and binge-watched season three of Veronica Mars (it is my current obsession). It was a truly delightful weekend and I’m sad to see it end.

As always, so many thanks to all of you who took the time to enter the Worker B giveaway last week. The winner is long time commenter, first time winner Tammy B. (#210). For all of you who didn’t win, don’t forget that the Rescue Putty is 20% off through the end of this month.

light in the dining room

After nearly two weeks of congestion and exhaustion, the cold fog has finally started to lift. I made some excellent potato soup for dinner late last week, but beyond that, nothing of particular value has come out of my kitchen. I’m trying to clear out an email backlog and finish unpacking from my trip. I have a two pound bag of cranberries in my fridge at the moment, so expect something appropriately seasonal later this week. Now, links.

cuppow gear

A couple weeks back, I hosted a giveaway sponsored by Cuppow. I had five sets of Cuppow lids, BNTO adaptors, CoffeeSocks, and Mason Taps to share with you guys. The winners are:

Thanks to everyone who took the time share how they could envision using the Mason Tap in their kitchens. All those creative solutions just prove that it’s a winner of a product!

Pear and chocolate jam, with some gorgeous bread from Talking Breads.

Last week was the first since March when I didn’t have a book events to do. It was singularly amazing. I made dinner every night and made serious progress in shifting some of the clutter that has built up in the corners around my desk. We even managed to have a few friends over for a little soup potluck earlier tonight. It was nice to experience normal life again.

My time at home is short lived, though. I head for Austin, TX on Tuesday to meet my increasingly alert new nephew and celebrate nephew number one’s third birthday. Now, links!

I've done 20 quarts of tomato purée in the last three days. #foodinjars

I made dinner five nights out of seven last week. I cannot even begin to imagine how long it has been since I managed to do that and it felt ridiculously wonderful. Being on the road with the book over the last six months has been a joy, but it’s so good to be home a little bit more. I do so love having a solid, well-established routine! Now, links.

Cypress Grove cheeses

The winner of last week’s Cypress Grove giveaway is #69/Kat. She said, “My husband makes a wonderful red pepper jelly, which we eat with Jarlsburg all the time!” Sounds like a delicious combination!

No Links and a Whole Foods Market Gift Card Winner

Mason jars, as far as the eye can see! I love you, Goods Store!

No links this week! I’ve been on vacation since Thursday night (we left town as soon as I was done teaching a class) and I haven’t been spending as much time sifting through my feed reader as I typically do. I still wanted to drop in to say hi and post the winner of the Whole Foods Market gift card giveaway from last week.

Random.com had picked #68/Laura W. as the winner. She said, “What you made was perfect–I especially think the rosemary was apt. Thinking about charcuterie and smoky flavors, I might have gone with a fragrant rosemary apple butter.”

I think a fragrant rosemary apple butter sounds delicious and I may have to try it this fall! Thanks to everyone who took the time to enter!
