Giveaway: Set of Three GIR Silicone Spatulas

GIR spatulas

When I was growing up, one of the staple tools in our kitchen was the trusty rubber-headed spatula. Known to us as a rubber scraper, it was my mother’s go-to utensil for cleaning bowls of cookie dough, saving every drop of leftover spaghetti sauce, and generally ensuring that not a drop of food was wasted.

However, those scrapers we used to use had some serious drawbacks. The rubber heads never lasted particularly long, they weren’t particularly sturdy in high temperature situations, and they had to be removed from the wooden handles all the time to prevent any grossness from collecting under there.

Happily, the flexible spatula has come a very long way in recent years. They nearly all have heatproof heads and my favorite ones are the fully encased silicone models where the heads don’t separate from the handle. I find that they last a whole lot longer than the previous generations, and I love that they can go in the dishwasher.

One company that’s making particularly awesome spatulas these days is GIR. They are made from food-safe silicone with a polymer core. They are heat proof up to 464 degrees F and are really great for stirring simmering batches of jams and jellies.

Thanks to the nice folks at GIR, I have a set of three spatulas (the mini, the skinny, and the ultimate) to give away today. Here’s how to enter:

  2. Comments will close at 11:59 pm east coast time on Saturday, January 25, 2014. Winner will be chosen at random and will be posted to the blog on Sunday, January 26, 2014.
  3. Giveaway is open to everyone.
  4. One comment per person, please. Entries must be left via the comment form on the blog at the bottom of this post. I can not accept submissions via email.

These look really nice, do they come in other colors? I am trying to keep my kitchen in all green, purple, and gray; but I won’t complain about a little blue. So far 2014 is going to be the year of organization and remodeling. And we have two projects almost complete, so its going well! Already my house feels larger and like I have some control.

Tomorrow is a big day for me. I’m adopting a kitty. I lost my furbaby late last year at the age of 21. I have decided that I need another furry face in my life. Hope the new year is going well for you too.

Retired last year and now I have time to (1) sleep late, and (2) play in the kitchen. I used to put up summer vegetables as a teenager years ago with two North Carolina aunts. Think it’s time I turn to small batches (instead of 50 quarts of tomatoes from their garden). 2014 looks like a truly fine year!

So far 2014 has been a little too dry. I’m in California where we are in some serious need of rain. I’m worried its going to mean no summer veggie garden and thus no home grown goodness for canning. (On top of all the standard drought worries, of course.)

Anyone got a good rain dance they can share?

2014 is my year to get fitter, and eat less chocolate on the couch after the kids are in bed.

    So far, epic failure.

Need these spatulas because then when I bake, every morsel will go into the cake and no sneaky licking of the bowl.

Can’t say they’ll stop me eating the baked cake, although my baking efforts are fairly dismal so that’s always a plus for less gorging!

I can’t believe all-one-piece spatulas never occurred to me up until this point. Genius! No more janky spatula head falling off, or crusty food stuck around the spatula/handle join…
2014 is going great so far — a little adventure, a little rest, a lot of good food, and my dream job starting in a few days. Life is good.

Wow, what a pretty set! The new heat resistant silicone scrapers are great; now, if they only would come up with a stain resistant model, that would be wonderful!
This new year is coming along swimmingly, considering it has just started. I have only gained 5 pounds over the holiday, and though winter and comfort cooking don’t really lend themselves to weight loss, I am confident I will be able to snow-shovel it off very soon!

I am looking forward to a good year! I’m slowly getting things more organized here at home now that I am retired. Would love new spatulas because I’ll be doing more baking now!

    Ann Marie Forbes Jones says:

We all started the year out with relative good health this in part due to the fact that we got all our shots. I’m from a generation that didn’t require immunizations to go to school and for that I am grateful. I was around however to see the onset of the most widespead immunizations ever to be given– that of the Salk vaccine for the new dreaded disease of the day Polio. Having said all that I’m looking forward to a great gardening and canning year in 2014.

I think you may faint off if you saw my preserves!
I have jellies, jams, chytneys and pickles and givecmany for gifts but around as home made are the best!
I live in rural Ireland and it would take all day to drive to somewhere to try and find these magnificent spoons.
They are in my colour and do have my name on them – look very closely! They would be a wonderful addition to my kitchen and used so often …. I would love to have these extra special spoons.
I use cheap ones from the local pound shop and they wither before my eyes!
I do flower jellies too and grow my own from seed and I would love to have some more recipes for those as they are so delicate and lovely on scones or cakes. Despite thecweather now I am thinking of a few seeds to plant already!

    Nancy A. says:

It has been a pretty good year so far, except for the cold, cold weather! I will like it much better when spring arrives. Love the spatulas! My mom always used them too, and they bent so much it was hard to use. These look sturdy and just what I need!

2014 so far is the same old same old except for a raise last year that is unheard of as a federal employee. I cannot tell you how much I need those spatula’s. I started canning the latter part of September last year for Christmas gifts and just before putting the peach butter into the jars, I had the joy of picking out pieces of spatula. Not only did the heat make them disintegrate, but it did so in miniscule pieces. But then I have lots of canning stories…like don’t can in your socks as eventually you will stick to the floor.

2014 great so far and today is the best of all after hearing a friend got great results from a medical test. I’m going to bake him some celebration cookies. I’d love to use these spatulas and will look if I can buy them here in Australia or order from the States if I can find out where to get some. :)
